A Prayer for Patience: In Times of Waiting

How do you move forward when you are weighed down by the pain of the past and worry for the future?

When you’ve done all you can to change a situation and now have to wait because you have no control over the “what,” “when,” or “how.”

Waiting for someone to make a choice, for a door to open, or for a season to end.

Wondering if it’s too late or if you’ve missed your chance to achieve something you’ve desired for so long.

Anxiety, frustration, sadness, fear, regret, and even anger can infect our thoughts, words, decisions, and actions when life does not unfold the way we believe it should.

Real danger arises when we allow those feelings to interfere with our ability to live in peace, make progress, or positively impact others.

We must bring ourselves back into the present moment and practice moving forward while we wait.

No matter what happened in the past or what may happen in the future, all that matters is this very present moment. You cannot allow anything or anyone to take it away from you because you will never get it back.

You have a chance right now to make a special memory, learn something new, let something go, or do something you’ve always wanted to.

When impatience rears its head, acknowledge it, take a deep breath, kneel, and decide to move forward in faith, doing what only you can do, without entering into a state of panic.

When life feels upside down, confusion clouds your mind, and overanalysis spirals out of control, acknowledge it, take a deep breath, kneel, seek, and find the truth.

Anchor your heart in and fix your mind on God.

Actively choose, over and over again if needed, to accept and welcome His master timing and plan over any and all of your expectations.

No matter how you feel, you want what He has for you. Remember that God is the Creator of the Universe.

Your King,

Your Savior,

Your Protector,

Your Deliverer,

Your Redeemer, and

Your Shepherd.

He knows you, is with you, and is familiar with every part of your situation.

Not only that, if you allow it, He will lead, guide, and teach you through it.

Seek His spirit, read His word, and follow His instructions, and He will direct your path.

a prayer for patience in times of waiting

Dear Lord,

In this time of transition, I choose to trust You completely.

Not because I feel like it or because it is easy, but because I know You are in complete control.

In this time of waiting, I believe with all my heart that You love me. You go before me and are with me; You will never leave me, abandon me, or forsake me.

So I choose faith, hope, and love.

Your spirit is inside of me, leading me and guiding me along this journey, and I value the opportunity to learn and grow

I forgive anyone who has ever hurt me, and I bless them.

Provide clarity and insight on anything I did that hurt them, knowingly or unknowingly. I pray for everyone that was, is, and will be connected to my life.

Lord speak to us

Give us Your understanding, Your discernment and Your wisdom

Use us and all of our experiences for good.

I surrender to this moment, commit to meeting the demands of today, release the rest to You.

I acknowledge my agency, my own ability to prioritize and act.

I decree and declare that I will keep moving forward.

In spite of delays, hiccups, and surprises,

In spite of disappointments and frustrations,

In spite of mistakes and shortcomings,

In spite of all the unknowns,

I choose to make meaningful progress—I will not give up.

I approach this day in peace and with gratitude for all You have done, are doing, and will do.

May Your love

anchor my soul,

heal my heart,

sharpen my perception, and

propel me with fortitude.

And most of all,

Let Your will be done.

In Your Name, I pray,

Amen
